Festival of Frugality #243 - Cruising Edition

I'm going on a cruise next week so that's what I'm thinking about!  Even cruising can be a frugal vacation if you go about it the right way!

Shop around, there are wide variances in price for the same destination.

A few DIY skills and The Budget Socialite is sleeping on an upscale platform bed on the cheap.  I built a bed like this for a friend a few years ago.  It's easy, inexpensive and well worth it!

Carole Schultz-Weil from In the Trenches has a guest post up at Billeater.com and she's talking about setting goals.  Always good advice!

We like recipes here at SimplyForties.  Budgeting in the Fun Stuff has one for Pineapple Stuffing, all costed out to show how truly frugal whipping up a batch will be!

Over at Dewey's Treehouse they're making plans for Christmas gifts.  That's good thinking.  The sooner you get started, the more time you have to make good, frugal choices.  I'm working on mine too!

Considering what a vacation means to you will help you get a good fit.

Money Beagle says Don't Buy Designer Sunglasses!!  Well okay then.

Free Money Finance has some good advice to band together with your neighbors to bargain for communal services.  Lawn service might be another thing for which you could finagle a group rate.

Evidently in Canada mortgage interest isn't automatically deductible.  Investing Thesis explains how to arrange it.

Remember, the destination is the same whether you arrive on a luxury ship or a bargain one!

In a very timely post, the Coupon Shoebox has some tips for frugal back-to-school shopping.

Here's another back-to-school money saver by One Money Design.  So glad I don't have to think about this anymore!

Richly Reasonable has discovered paperbackswap.  One of my sisters swears by the service.  It's a great way to get new-to-you books on the cheap!

Dinks Finance is reviewing their cell phone plan.  Unfortunately, if you've signed a contract there's not much you can do with this bill until your contract expires but reviewing it might help you make a better choice next time!

Watson Inc. is disgusted that the frugal are being blamed for the slow economy.

Trying to eat healthy on a budget?  Online College has a list of 100 blog posts with information on how to do it.

Squirrelers is making a somewhat convoluted argument about the low cost of drinking water.  I agree, it's a great value.

My Personal Finance Journey has a step-by-step guide to being financially responsible when changing employers.

The Digerati Life has some great tips for saving money on weddings.  Anyone planning a wedding should take heed!

The Sun's Financial Diary is looking at cooking oils.  We all know olive oil is healthy but it can be expensive.  There are alternatives!

Uttarakhand And I has a very lovely and inspiring post of Thanksgiving.    A lot of us have had to tighten our belts to make it to the next paycheck.  What about those whose belt must always be tight?

In spite of raising its fees, Nerd Wallet thinks Amex's Starwood Preferred Card is still a good deal.

On the other hand, Clear Choice Credit Card Blog give props to Visa's new Wyndham card.

Not sure these have much to do with being frugal but I decided to include them anyway.

Budgets are Sexy has a guest post by Ramit Sethi on starting a business.  No surprise but according to Ramit there is a lot of bad advice out there about the basics.
