Weekly Roundup, January 8, 2009

(What I wish I was seeing outside my window!)

Millionaire Mommy Next Door has an amusing analogy about the power of patience with Five Things the Marshmallow Test Can Teach You About Money Management.

A Foray into Online Social Networking appears in the Rich Life Carnival.

Who was, and in many cases still is, minding the store? This Op-Ed piece from the New York Times, which I first heard about from Green Panda, The End of the Financial World As We Know It, does some pretty accurate finger pointing. It’s an eye-opening read.

Lower Gas Prices, A Mixed Blessing? appears in the All Things Eco Carnival at Focus on Organic. Recycle Cindy is making her own reusable grocery bags from plarn, which is a yarn made from recycled plastic grocery bags. There’s a certain sense of “rightness” about that! Izmet’s Dream has an article on mining e-waste. Yet another environmental hurdle to overcome.

MoneyNing has a good article on 5 Surefire Ways to Stop Thinking Your Paycheck is Never Enough. It all boils down to finding a way to be happy with what you have as opposed to wishing you had something else!

The Wife At Home has a great personal goal on her list of goals for 2009. Among other things, she wants to “develop the discipline to pass up a deal”. That’s a great goal.

Rooms to Let, Fifty Cents appears in the Carnival of Money Stories at Gather Little by Little. Blueprint for Financial Prosperity is contemplating getting a dog on a cost basis and trying to figure out the Total Cost of Owning a Dog. If he thinks about it that way I doubt he’ll get one. It’s impossible to know how much that cute puppy is going to cost you in the long run. You get a dog because you love them and then you figure out how to make it work! The Digerati Life has a very good list of debt elimination tips. Very succinct and very smart.

Of Cabbages and Kings writes about the benefits of using dial-up Internet service in Tips for Looking Cool While On Dial-up in 2009. Having time to multi-task while waiting for your page to load is just one advantage!

Lots of good articles. Thanks for sharing!

If we can learn to be content, then this year shouldn't be too bad. Buckling down a bit and being conscious of where our money is going are two tactics to ride this through.

@Green Panda - I think that's the best goal of all. We need to hunker down, stay open to opportunity, and get through it!
