New Year's Resolutions and Goals for 2009

Corny as it sounds, this year and every year my only “resolution” is to be a better person. It’s a good resolution because, no matter how hard I try, I’m human, I err, I can always be better. Therefore, with hardly any thought, I always have my resolve ready for the new year!

My Financial Goals

1. My big goal for this year is to be debt free, except for my mortgage, by the end of the year.
2. Fully fund my Roth IRA;
3. Increase my income by 10%;
4. Finish funding my emergency account; and
5. Double my charitable contributions

Goals for my blog

1. Grow my readership to 10,000 unique hits per month;
2. Grow my blog related income to $100 a month (meager I know, but that’s not why I do it!); and
3. Fortnightly guest posts and guest posting (if you’re interested in guest posting on SimplyForties, send me an e-mail! Looking for guest posters? Let me know!)

Personal Goals

1. Raise a few chickens;
2. Exercise regularly;
3. Work more diligently in my yard; and
4. Finish a particular, long ignored, DIY project

Modest goals, one and all, but they’re my goals and I hope, a year from now, to be writing that I have achieved them all!

I like your goals, especially having chickens. That sounds intriging. Do you have more posts about that?
Happy 2009!

@RTC - I have no posts about it yet but plan to chronicle what I'm sure will be an adventure. Stay tuned!

I wish you success on your goals. Being debt free is a fantastic goal to work towards. My favorite of your financial goals is doubling your charity contributions. You have a generous heart!

Thanks Green Panda - I doubled my charitable contributions in 2008 over 2007 but they still represent a fairly small portion of my income. So many people are hurting these days, I'm happy to share what I have. Thanks for your comment!

Your lists are very organized and clear. Shows that you are ahead of the game. I quit making lists. At 51, I feel like things are falling into place in my mind as long as I keep exercising, which I already love to do. The rest will take care of itself.
I'd love to talk to you about the guest blogging. Maybe we can e-mail?

I have been reading your blog and am impressed by your resolutions. So focused! My main resolution is to continue with the plan I implemented last summer to reduce our debt load and increase our savings. I just have one comment on your list. Don't let those chickens catch sight of your worms!
